DOORS Built-In Migration Metrics Incorrect

I have a need to tally the number of modules and objects in a DOORS 9.2 database. DOORS 9.2 doesn't have the benefit of Migration Metrics, so I wrote a script. I thought I would validate my script by using the Migration Metrics on the same data. (I'm developing the script in DOORS 9.6.1.9)

I was shocked to find that the Migration Metrics for module and object counts are incorrect! Has anyone else tried to independently validate the Migration Metrics and find that they are wrong? In this forum post, I'm going to focus on the object count issue.

I have a project called Test with three link modules and three formal modules. The formal modules have 60, 157, and 225 objects in each, respectively. I know this based on the Filter Properties "Total Objects" field.

Project contents:

Configuration module in Standard View, total objects from Filter Properties window:

System Requirements module in Standard View, total objects from Filter Properties window:

WNA-DBGEN module in Standard View, total objects from Filter Properties window:

Excel tells me that these three totals add up to 442 objects.

My script that counts modules and objects produces the following results:

Total Modules: 3

Total Objects: 442

However, when I run the Migration Metrics in the DOORS client under File > Migration, here is the result:

Any thoughts? Have I overlooked something major? Should I submit a PMR?

Thanks in advance!

I'd assume "Objects" means "Objects that have a non empty Object Text attribute" and "Heading Objects" are "Objects that have a non empty Object Heading attribute".

If you have a object with both, text and heading, it will get counted twice.

If your assumption is true, I would think think that the Migration Metrics would call "Objects" "Object Text" or "Non-Heading Objects" rather than the generic "Objects."

Furthermore, when I add together the Migration Metrics' Objects and Heading Objects, I end up with more objects than exist in the three modules! (484!)

Hi Bob - not sure what the migration metrics are counting exactly but keep in mind there are control objects associated with tables ( I noticed you have 8) - one for the table and one for each row of a table this my account for the extra objects.  While the File > Mod Properties > Statistics does not count these control objects, since the purpose of the migration scripts are to port to DNG I am guessing the control objects would need to be ported and counted. This is just a guess on my part, I have not tested it out.
